Much has been blogged about The Great Gatsby soundtrack, which if purchased simply for listening pleasures would be a good addition to your audio collection. The playlist is impressive and intriguing. However, after watching the movie this weekend, I’ve concluded Jay-Z knows absolutely dick about scoring films, as in placing the right music with the right moments. Also his own self-promotion, misplaced throughout the film, was painfully blatant. Personally speaking, none of the tracks fully enhanced the scenes – the selections do not fit the time period in which The Great Gatsby is set – except this one by the lovely Lana Del Rey.
“Young and Beautiful” captures the essence of the eternal love Gatsby has for his leading lady Daisy, within a nostalgic vibe of the past. Thank you Lana for understanding the movie’s concept. Bravo. Hov needs to stay out of the movie biz, the sports biz, and any other venture he’s unqualified for.
The movie itself is brilliant. I need richer friends, who throw Gatsby-style parties.
