5 Must-See Live Shows [Videos x Recap]

Nicki Minaj – 2009, Atlanta

True music enthusiasts know not to judge talent until seeing the act live on stage. And the difference between music journalists and bloggers (aka laptop renegades) is days and months and years clocked backstage documenting concerts. These folks know high-tech studio engineering can’t cover up a crappy show. The following is a list of artists I recommend you see at least once in your life, they won’t disappoint. Who is your favorite performer?

Nicki Minaj – One of the best parts of seeing a Nicki Minaj concert is listening to the fans speculate on whether or not her booty is real (the general consensus says she’s sporting butt pads). Either way, Nicki delivers a “kick-ass” show. She has absolutely no room for improvement (totally disregard last year’s “Roman” debacle at the Grammy’s, everyone is allowed one major life mistake.)

Tech N9ne – Tech N9ne is known for bringing out the painted-faced juggalos and random weirdos, but don’t let the odd crowd deter you from catching his concert. His choreographed moves, superb sound quality, and fancy stage will leave you felling like you just saw a rap opera. Definitely unforgettable.

Machine Gun Kelly – Titties, titties, and more titties. MGK’s shows have more exposed nipples than a high school gym locker room. I gave up trying not to stare and just enjoyed the show, underage B-cups and all. Fans at an MGK concert show out all the way, making the experience extra entertaining. Even if Waka doesn’t make a guest appearance during “Wild Boy”, MGK will have the whole venue super hype all on his own.

Black Keys – The alternative music/guitar lover in me was blown away during last year’s performance at Music Midtown in Atlanta. Cold Play was the headliner, but no doubt the Black Keys were the favorite act. I promptly bought every album on iTunes, and I never, ever pay for music.

Kendrick Lamar – KL made me a true fan when I saw him perform at Masquerade last year. Riding around to a Kendrick Lamar mixtape vibing on the highway is cool and all, but watching him share his powerful story through performance is amazing.

Other mentionables (click name to view footage) – Rittz, Yelawolf, Killer Mike, Juicy J, El-P, M.O.P., Iggy Azalea, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Nine Inch Nails, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Redman & Method Man (circa 1997), Big K.R.I.T., Bun B, Waka Flocka, Future.
